Summary
Jen took the JAK inhibitor upadacitinib (Rinvoq) for 66 days starting December 2023 before stopping early due to profound weakness and paralyzing fatigue with no apparent benefit while on the drug. She had suffered from severe myalgic encephalomyelitis for nearly two decades, since a 2006 illness contracted while traveling in Central America, and had already tried more than a hundred other medications. About five weeks after stopping upadacitinib, her immune markers normalized and she experienced a sudden, dramatic turnaround she described as being like "Lazarus from the dead." More than a year after the trial she remains in remission, an effect that has held rather than faded, and she is now working on publishing her case as a case study.
