Summary
After discovering recovery narratives on the Recovery Norway website, she used a self-directed regimen of breathing exercises with longer exhales than inhales, mindfulness (watching calming videos, counting colors in the room), progressive relaxation via Rick Hansen recordings, yoga, and a graded walking program starting at 100 meters and increasing 100-200 meters weekly, alongside cognitive reframing self-talk and pacing her return to work from 25% up to 75% capacity. She fell ill in late March 2020, and by six months in was so severely affected that she became fully bedbound for three weeks, unable to work, and needed earplugs and closed curtains for sound and light sensitivity. She writes that just over half a year after she began improving she felt "almost completely well," able to run again, work 75%, care for her children, and "spend a whole day at the PC and write complex texts." She had a setback after a clinic visit when she became fixated on measuring her blood oxygen with a home device and went to the emergency room fearing she would faint, which she resolved by discarding the device and learning to treat low readings as a sign to reduce overall strain. As of writing she still occasionally feels tiredness in her head and eyes but reports it improving week by week, with no medication or formal ongoing treatment mentioned.
