A butyrate supplement, along with inulin from Jerusalem artichoke, each tried as a single-capsule test rather than a sustained course. He had been ill with severe CFS for about twenty years before this attempt. After just one capsule of either substance he "became extremely sick," reporting the same exact symptoms that had triggered his CFS two decades earlier. This was a clear adverse reaction rather than any improvement, so no benefit, relapse-after-gain, or maintenance dosing applies.
