My Long COVID Disability Journey
- Condition
- Long COVID
- At worst
- Severe (mostly bedbound)
- Ill for
- 3 years
- Published
- Mar 2023
Summary
Activity management based on her 2-day CPET results, taken in July 2022; the report set a pacing ceiling of 107 bpm and she got a fitness tracker to alert her when she exceeded it. Ill with long COVID for about three years by the time of the account, with the CPET showing moderate-to-severe impairment equivalent to an inactive 76-year-old's energy production, and unable to work. Using the heart-rate ceiling for pacing, including avoiding standing for more than five to seven minutes, has been enormously helpful in preventing overexertion. This is described as an ongoing daily management strategy rather than a cure: she remains on long-term disability, with improved crash management but no recovery reported.
