Summary
Lactobacillus plantarum 299v was tried by Archie for SIBO-related gut symptoms alongside ME/CFS. It initially made her bloating worse, in what she described as her worst episode ever, before the reaction flipped and symptoms began improving. She attributed part of the shift to the strain producing L-lactic rather than D-lactic acid, and combined it with prebiotics over about three weeks. By her most recent update she said probiotics and prebiotics together had made things better compared to the previous month, though the improvement could not be isolated to the 299v strain alone. Illness duration and severity beyond the gut symptoms were not specified.
