Summary
Carl-Gerhard Gottfries, a Swedish psychiatrist, developed prolonged post-infectious fatigue after the 1957-58 Asian Flu epidemic and eventually became bedridden and unable to work. His fatigue resolved and he resumed full psychiatric practice after starting a staphylococcus vaccine, but he needed monthly booster shots to maintain the effect and relapsed when he stopped. He later tested the vaccine in his own ME/CFS patients with 50 to 65 per cent response rates; the manufacturer discontinued it in 2005 under new European regulations.
