Summary

Starting from a baseline of being out of bed or a recliner only one to two hours a day, tried Valtrex for seven months with little effect, then switched to Valcyte 1450mg/day. The first three months brought slight improvement, months four to six a worsening phase, and months seven to nine what they called significant improvement, describing it as moving "2 levels" on Dr. Lerner's severity scale. By about a year on Valcyte they reported "huge improvement in my cognitive function," tentatively crediting possible improved cerebral blood flow, and expected to need "a couple of years at least" of continued treatment.
